Question about water pressure washer.
Dear friends:
I've seen some ads for $79 water pressure washers (electrical ones-1300 psi and 1.7 gpm) and some $300 washers (based on Honda engines-2200 psi and 2.5 gpm). I have always wanted some pressure washers for cleaning up the driveway etc... but wondered whether the electrical ones are strong enough for these purposes. How much stronger is a 1300psi/1.7 gpm pressure washer compared to a regular water noozle set at the Jet position? Thanks for your precious information. Best regards, Eric |

Eric:
I bought a unit from Northern Tool that gives me up to 2400 psi at 3 gallons per minute. Now, that's almost enought to strip paint, but you can reduce the pressure either with the unloader valve or by throttling the engine back. I use it to pressure wash everything (except my teeth). I would suggest that you analyze how you would expect to use the unit and buy accordingly. Here in the mountains, I pressure wash my log cabin prior to oiling, ditto the decks. At my winter digs, I use it to clean the carport floor and, with reduced pressure, the slump brick outside walls. If all I wanted it for was to clean engines and the bugs off the front of the car, I probably would have gone with one of the lesser expensive units. Hope that helps you to decide... Wes |

The little electric ones (IMHO) aren't really any good. The pressure developed just doesn't seem to get any cleaning done. For use around the house I would stick to the Honda powered unit. I tried to use the electric type to clean my rubbish barrels with no positive results. When using the gas powered one this chore is done in minutes. My $ 0.02.
