The whole thing's pretty damn depressing! I think that the mother must have also been mentally ill to let both herself and her child live in such filth. Besides that, a house like that certainly wouldn't have helped him build a sense of his own ego. Once the bullies set in, he was done for.

I also wouldn't rule out the possibility that the mother killed him. She was working two jobs and obviously didn't have the ability to keep a home on top of that-- let alone a growing pre-teen with all those inheirant problems.

I hope they're able to figure out exactly what happened.
