1961 190Db hubcaps

Some time ago, I acquired a parts car that is supposed to be a '61 190b (gasser). The wheels on this car have large rectangular devices to hold on the hubcaps. On the '61 190Db that I have had for many years, the hubcaps are held on by what look like short stout pins with large semi-spherical heads. Were both of these methods common on the Ponton style wheels and what is the timing for one style to appear vs the other? The pin style seems to be a lot simpler and cheaper to produce, so I'm guessing it was the second version. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
