I am glad to have found such an active board for Merc owners. I am happy to hear that SLK's in general don't break - broken Mercedes get expensive quickly.
It is my wife that drives our SLK most of the time as well. I have a long commute to work and would rack up the miles too quickly - At least I get it on the weekends!
elau: I would have liked to get an SL to begin with, but a good one was a little more than I wanted to spend. I am also not too crazy about the two tops and I am happy to see that the SL's have now followed suit and have the fold up in the trunk deal like the SLK's. Maybe someday...... Thanks for the info regarding the platform - I knew it was not based on the SL, and I did think it was probably a C-class take off because of that god-awful hatchback thing they are passing of which is about the same size as the SLK.
My SLK is quick, but not super quick. It drives like it is much bigger than it actually is and have a nice feel, but it does not come off as a real performance machine. The recirculating ball steering does not help with the performance feel (Is this sloppy sedan set up in all MB cars?) but the ride is civilized and comfortable and it is certainly quick enough to be fun.
It is nice to meet you all!
Jim
