My '88 300SE is getting tired and may only be with me for another 1-2 years. But the stereo is driving me mad. The original (and last) owner had the factory unit replaced with an Alpine unit installed in a Bezi Box. It's a cassette player and for the last 6 months, when you turn the volume all the speaker crackle! You have to keep tapping the volume cotrol and eveltually all 4 speakers sound fine. Drives me nuts and I hate the persoal cd player-plugged into a cassette adapter to play CDs. My thoughts are to get a set of decent rear speakers (originals are in there now) that will fit the rear openings and then a new Alpine CD unit.
So, my question is this: if I buy an Alpine unit, can I re-use the currently installed Benzi Box?
Let me know because I don't want anyone messing with the installation if I can avoid it.
