this topic has definitely been covered before, but
the way people were talking about it, I thought it would be MUCH cheaper that diesel at the pump. (I thought that road taxes etc were closer to $1.00 a gallon, I honestly let out a gasp when he said "two-nineteen"
IMHO its Absolutely not worth it to save $10 bucks or so per fillup. I would guess that as the price of fuel rises, the # of people doing end-runs around the road taxes will increase, as well as the number of spot checks/dip tests on drivers.
Example... my 300D @ $10 savings per fillup, 50 fillups per year is $500, if you fillup twice a week, you'd save $1000 per year. Still not nearly enough to justify the risk.
NO red diesel does NOT make red smoke.
My old house had an oil burner both for home heating and for on demand hot water (no hot water tank) worked fine but smelled a bit when you got close to it.
