I thought HHO was cheap??
In PA, a Neighbor was getting some delivered (my house has heat pump) I asked the guy how much, he said $2.19 a gallon?!? Diesel @ the pump here is $2.50 a gallon, so 30 cents road taxes?
Then I casually asked if it was dyed red, he looked over my shoulder @ my car and said "yes".

There isn't a whole lot to be saved by running HHO considering the risk you run of getting whacked with a fine. RT

Hell if I was him I would buy a few jerry cans and drive to the gas station.....even considering the back and forth driving he would save money.

Since when would the DOT stop and inspect a diesel passenger vehicle? Chances of that are slim to none, IMO.

Keep saying that.

A family friend just had his Dodge Ram and fifth wheel camper confiscated on the way to Florida, 400 gallons of HHO in the tanks. The fine is $120,000.00 USD or $300.00 per gallon. He has thirty days to pay, or truck and camper go to auction + legal action to seize assets for any balance due. This topic has been covered before. Veggie oil is a better idea. |

OK, I've lived all 43 sheltered years down here in Texas. Forgive my question, but what exactly is home heating oil, and what is it used in, some type of oil burning stove or heater? Down here we have natural gas, propane or electricity. (I live in an all electric house, and the electric bill is higher in winter than summer)
I also saw my first basement last year while in Kansas. Wow, would a basement be great, but can't do it in our soil.

Home heating oil is #2 fuel oil. It is basically identical to diesel fuel. However, it is not subject to the taxes that road fuels suffer. So, many folks like to use home heating oil in a road vehicle. The chances of getting caught are just about nil, but, if it happens to you, the costs far outweigh the risk, as Roy has clearly shown.

The diesel fuel at the "gas" station is more expensive than the home heating oil. The difference in price is usually closer to $.50. The question is whether the $2.19 price is the spot price, or whether he has a full service contract and his price includes service. The spot price here is about $1.90 per gallon. |

We have it here is Texas, only its called "off road" and/or "farm implement" fuel. It too is dyed RED so that it can be differentiated from "TAXED" fuel. I have heard the "Friend-of-a-Friend" horror stories on the forum, but never known anyone to be inspected.

this topic has definitely been covered before, but
the way people were talking about it, I thought it would be MUCH cheaper that diesel at the pump. (I thought that road taxes etc were closer to $1.00 a gallon, I honestly let out a gasp when he said "two-nineteen"
IMHO its Absolutely not worth it to save $10 bucks or so per fillup. I would guess that as the price of fuel rises, the # of people doing end-runs around the road taxes will increase, as well as the number of spot checks/dip tests on drivers. Example... my 300D @ $10 savings per fillup, 50 fillups per year is $500, if you fillup twice a week, you'd save $1000 per year. Still not nearly enough to justify the risk. NO red diesel does NOT make red smoke. My old house had an oil burner both for home heating and for on demand hot water (no hot water tank) worked fine but smelled a bit when you got close to it.

But there was a point in time where delivered fuel was higher than it was at the pump. In PA anyway.
