Sorry I can't help you with the actual procedure. I can only relate that there is a spring kit (maybe an updated version) which can replace your wind deflector springs. I only know this because my car (a 1987 300E, new to me) had this repair done right before my acquiring it. I don't know if this is a DIY project. Contact one of the many learned sages on this site.
