I have an elderly lady friend who still drives her 1960 220S. Over the last sevral years she's been told by a few 'mechanics' that she needs new carbs when all she actually needed was a fuel line or jet-holder tightened or some other adjusment. Unless the carbs are REALLY bad- (Been parked in the woods for years or under water) and if the car is still running, I'd recommend repairing / rebuilding them. I've heard of Webers availible as replacements for the Solex carbs, priced in the $500 to $1000 range. I've also heard about problems with adapting the Webers to fit Mercedes
(trouble with throttle linkages and not fiting the original air filter unit)
Good Luck, Mark DiSilvestro
