Don't think the VIN has it - but the VIN could lead you to the VMI report (at the dealership) which would tell you whether the transmission was a 722.5 or a 722.6, the fully electronic. I was not aware that the change occurred during the 1996 model year - thought all 96s were 722.5s - but it's possible.
