most people

most people use a filter bag and hang it off the bottom of an old camera tripod.... you can buy a oil catch bucket that is open at autozone... and go search the basement for the camera tripod.... cut the leg off of a pair of bluejeans... and use a wire tie to close the end... and your in business...

then order yourself some filter bags... you should know it will take 24 hours to filter 5 gallons....

I approached a new resturant in the small town I live in, and they hadn't arranged for pickup yet, so they were happy to get rid of it. helps that I know most of the staff, just not the owners.
I do eat there when I can.

one of the cooks caught me on the street the other day and said that he arranged with another of the resturants in town to give me their oil as well. how cool is that? my bike trailer will hold 2 cubies well, adn I don't drive in town in the summer, so 10 or 15 gallons a week will make me plenty of biodiesel for the road trips and work. I can do 4000 miles in 3 weeks or not drive for 2 weeks. going on 1 week now.

Personally after looking around at the quality of alot of resteraunts cooking oil I found a small buisness in a neaerby mall that cooks exclusivelly french fries. I picked up my first batch, ran it through my filters then showed it to a friend that was the one who turned me on to the idea in the first place. He's reaction was that it was the best oil he had seen "before" AND "after" filtration. And secondly you have to make sure they their standard for changing the oil is high. As far as getting their approval for taking it, be honest.Tell them you want to save a few bucks at the same time let them know that the process IS quite involved and maybe even fill them in on how it all works.Oh yeah it dosen't hurt to throw in the inviromentally friendly side to it all.Good Luck!
