1й a variant, on a right longeron under a cowl
This is all the translator said. That is one of the nastiest engine bays I have ever seen. I can't stand to have to work on one like that.

My wife, who is a native Russian speaker and 300D driver, can't figure it out. The translation above is basically mechanically accurate, but makes no real sense.

My wife is Ukrainian and she said all the text says is pointing out where components are located in the engine.

Those look like engine pre-heaters to me. They burn gasoline, diesel or propane to heat the coolant up. The 300TD book that I have describes the optional Mercedes aux heater. It came with a timer to keep the engine from freezing up solid in I guess Siberia.

My russian is not that good, but all I got were part locations in the engine bay and different types of whatever that is which seems to be a heating device.

Webasto is a German company, specialized on auxiliary heaters and A/C components. That 'fire-extinguisher-shaped' thing in the second picture is the actual burner, I believe, it works basically like the furnace in your house. I also recognize the muffler in the fourth picture. Auxiliary heaters for gas or diesel engines are very popular in Europe. They make more sense than electrical block heaters or remote starters, but are quite expensive. This one looks very 'antique' to me, they built those huge things back in the 70's and 80's. I have one of those in my Westy, it's an air heater, though, not a water heater.
Check this out, but don't get too excited, afaik they cost about 1000 bucks w/o installation. http://www.webastoshowroom.com/blueheat/

Those engine bays are horrible! Yet the last car has two peice drilled rotors.
I know the roads in those countries are pretty bad so the the dirt everywhere isn't surprising.
