I had at one point considered converting to WVO but decided against it for a couple of reasons. Primarily, it was the cost involved with three vehicles. Instead, I opted to go with Bio-D and have run probably 15,000 miles on B100 (usually, occasionally a different percentage)
Anyway, as an experiment a few years ago, I ran my 99 F-350 powerstroke during the summer with WVO. It ran OK, but I am interested in seeing how the injectors look. (I am pulling them in a couple of weeks for unrelated work)

IMO, I would run Bio-D over WVO anyday, especially in the later model cars.

You might be very surprised when you go to this site....

Good information... I had actually found that on Google a few weeks ago. Hickory might be an option now that I'm at school, only an hour away... but none of those were an option for a Lexington dweller. Statesville, Charlotte, Lenoir... all way too far away from my normal driving to make it worthwhile to buy fuel.

The one in High Point was the only option, and there was a big thing here a month or two ago. That one was shut down by the town or something on some technicality, building wasn't inspected properly or something. According to the papers it was just to get rid of them for something anyway.

Last I heard they were relocating to Greensboro... a nice 45 minute drive... and no idea how far along that is.

Here's my 2 cents worth. Both of the diesels that I run on bio are older and probably simpler systems (an '83 300D and a 7.3 International). About 16K miles combined. Absolutely no problems. Pulled an injector a while back and it looked / sprayed great. I make my own bio and am pretty careful about quality. Although I think WVO in its purest form would be good stuff, I prefer the quality control that I get with bio. Too many possible nasties in WVO for my taste. Seems that a common problem with homemade bio (and WVO) is water. It is very important to thoroughly dry the fuel. Test and drying methods are listed on several bio forums. In conclusion, I would not hesitate to put my homemade fuel in any system, new or old. Too, I actually get slightly better mpg than on pump diesel.

Was walking thru the grocery parking lot yesterday
when what do I see

A nice gray 300D turbo diesel with a sticker onthe back window

"Vegatable Oil"

LOL

I looked at the car & laughed

Little did I know it was the red haired woman who was wlking towards me car...

I walked past the car turning around to see her fussing with her groceries in the back seat.

I was curious to see how it sounded & if it belched smoke....
so I walked back toward the car to try to get a look.

The car drove off smooth as silk & I watched but I could not see the exhaust but there was no visible smoke cloud...

Guess the "strange" diesel has caught my attention.

I have a proper two-tank WVO/SVO system in my 98 W210 turbodiesel. I installed it about 8000 miles ago, and nearly all of those miles have been on used cooking oil (long cross-country road trip). I keep B99 biodiesel in the main tank for startup and shutdown, and run the waste oil while things are good and hot.

It's early -- only a few months and 8k miles -- but things are going great. I've already nearly paid for the cost of the conversion kit in fuel savings. I find myself tempted to do a truck, or find a G-wagon that has been converted over to diesel here in the U.S. (hard creature to find!).

I know the thread is about Benz motors, but anecdotally, I know a fellow that has 100,000+ WVO miles on a 7.3 Ford Powerstroke pickup with a heated two-tank system, with no problems.

Cheers, John

John;

My F250 has been converted for about 20 months now with probably 12-13K miles on WVO without any detectable problems. Has your friend pulled his injectors and found any problems?
