Biodiesel on OM603

IIs it possible to just go straight to B100 on the OM603? Should I just have a 1/2 or 1/4 tank of B100 and the rest Petrol Diesel? I heard that the Biodiesel cleans out gunk, but I don't think that I'm ready with fuel filters if there is a lot of gunk!

Advice on recommended dose of Biodiesel for the first time in the engine's life?

biodiesel

Well then, get ready. Fill up a few times with b100, and then change the fuel filters, no big deal.

Then later on if fuel leaks develop, replace the O rings with viton rings, also no big deal.

Get at least 4 spare filters with you in the car before you switch.

By this you mean 4 spare inline filters correct?

What about the other fuel filter?

There is also another thing about O-Rings. Where are those located so I know where to look exactly and how to replace them?

You'll want a few extras of both filters. I like the clear pre-filters. It's easier to see when the are getting clogged.

As for the o-rings. They are in the delivery valves on the injection pump. Diesel Giant has a good DIY about replacing them.

Also eventually biodiesel will brake down your fuel hoses. So at some point you will need to replace them. But it can take a good while depending one the current shape of the hoses.

The fuel strainer is in the tank. I wouldn't worry about it unless you start experiencing lack of power issues with new filters. The tank screens can get clogged, but not always.

I see...

Thank you for the insightful tips. I really only want to run this Biodiesel to clean out gunk. I don't really have any intention of repeatedly using it because it's more expensive. Probably 1 or 2 fill ups or so....

I used a couple of tanks of B20 in my '87 before going to B100, which I used for over a year, then went back to B20 dues to the cost of B100. No problems with filters clogging, guess my fuel system was already pretty clean.

Take out seats?

I am assuming that I have to take out the seats to access the fuel tanks and replace the strainer? Special Tools?

Not sure on the newer models but on the 123's the tank screen is accessable from the underside of the car. If you climb under you should see two hoses comming out near the center of the car just behind the rear axles. But again don't worry about it until you experience fuel starvation with clean filters. I've never had any problems with the tank screens on either one of my cars. But I have worked a few that have.
