Going Biodiesel- which filters....
Going Biodiesel. I know there are several filters which may get clogged initially. Does someone have their names and part numbers so I don't order the wrong stuff? They're for a '90 300D 2.5T. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest you just carry a few of each of the fuel filters you normally use. I never really noticed a difference, but after 1000 miles or so on b100, I swapped out the clear pre-filter and the benz spin-on main fuel filter. I prefer the clear to the clouded pre-filter so I can keep my eye on the fuel...
next, watch your injector return lines, because if they are old they will probably be weepy before any other lines show any wear at all... if you want to be fancy you can replace the few lines with viton, but I just replace with stock stuff if/when it goes. right now, I've only just replaced the inj. return lines once, and fuel filters twice (again, completely preventatively... no problems detected) I was fortunate to have a fairly clean tank I guess. Good luck with it! you'll notice the difference right away, and the first few times you gun it from a red light and see no smoke behind you you might think you've blown your exhaust or something... but nope, it's just not spewwing as much black stuff! k

it all depends on how much crap is living in your tank/fuel system. On my VW B4, 240D, and 300TD, all three clogged within 60-100 miles of B100 dose. and on the B4, it clogged again after a winter of dino-fuel. Bottom line is that if you run high percentages of biodiesel, its smart to carry atleast one set of extra fuel filters and necessary tools to change them. Symptoms of the clog - You'll notice that the car will start to have problems holding speed, poor acceleration, and the engine may even begin missing. Change out both the filters in about 5 minutes and you've got a new car. It also seems that B100 increases the frequency that i've had to change filters noticeably but not drastically. You can get some cheap backup Purolator filters at most autozone type places for about 15 bucks. good insurance.
