Help, where is the water coming from? W124 trunk
I'm trying to figure out where the water is coming from on the trunk of my 400E (92 W124). The water is in the trunk cover! This means you hear it slosh down when you open the trunk! It can then be drained by removing the rubber plugs in the top coerners when the trunklid is open.
I'm trying to track down the source. After heavy rains I check the trunk for sighns of water coming from the nuts where the handle is attached - no luck (water is there but no trails). I removed the rear trim piece and the black plastic handle but have found no obvious points of entry. Anyone else have this happen and what did you do to cure it? I'm thinking of putting a thin layer of RTV on anything that seals against the metal to act as a real gasket. I guess I should also check the bumper stops that are on the sides of the trunklid. Thanks for any suggestions Paul Oh yea, anyone have advise on replacing the threaded rods in the plastic handle? Two pulled out. I can remove the nuts and then epoxy the studs back in or heat the studs so they grip the plastic. What have people done? |
