Too bad they could'nt figure out how to make the primer stick to the metal and the paint stick to the primer.

Hi everybody,

I'm french, so I apologize for my mistakes.

I have a W210 E300D 10/1995 and, two weeks ago, my right spring perch (I don't know if it is the name, my traductor is not very reliable, so the broken part is encircle with red on the photo) failed.
Fortunately th car was stopped.
There was a lot of rust, and it is a very serious problem... if it happens in motion.

This problem is well known in France, and Mercedes repair for free under garanty.

But for my car the garanty is over (10 years).

Do you know what can I do ?

Thank you very much for your help !

Bonjour Misuer!

Very well translated! Since you are not in the US, and the French have a strange way about everything, no telling you what Mercedes Benz would do for you.....

Bonjour Falsapartenza85!

First, I don't think that we (French) have a strange way about everything, this is what we can read in bad press or watch on bad TV, but it's wrong !
I went to NY last year, and I've met a lot of fantastic people, and I felt very close from them (ideas, way of life...).
I think with Sarkozy diplomatic relations will getting better between USA and Fr .

I understand that you can't tell me what Mercedes Benz would do for me, I didn't phrase my question very well.

I would like to know if anyone among you has experimented this problem, with expired guarantee, and has succeeded to obtain a contribution from MB.

Thank you

Well you can write English better then I can French so I can't complain.

Anyway I think you might be out of luck. In this country its hit and miss. My friends 1998 E300D had the perch's done a year ago and the dealer just did them no questons asked. Some people have to fight MB to get them to do it. I have heard MB tell people they are SOL, and I have heard of them just paying half.

If you have a good relationship with a dealer, and are like the second or original owner of the car you have a better shot. But still its hit and miss.

I know French law is very different then ours since we operate on the English common law system. So you guys may have something over their that you can use to get MB to fix it. I know in this country MB is hiding the problem, and the dealers play dumb. Their is no official recall, warranty, or good will program. It seems their is a silent good will program for good customers, thats it.

Your probably going to have to pay a body shop to do it, usualy costs about $2k-$3k US. So what like $1,000 euro's these days?

$2-$3K USD used to be $2.4-$3.6K Euro not long ago (pre-Bush time).

Happy Happy!

Just got the car inspected and serviced. No rust at all except for a small spot at the rear muffler. Not bad for an 18 year old car.

Long live W124!

I have a white 2000 e430. I love the way the car drives and until recently it has been relatively trouble free. I have noticed rust in a number of spot along the fenders where they meet with the lower cladding.

I have a couple questions… Is there any easy fix and what it the original rust protection warranty?

It is disappointing because I never had a car rust like this and I either waxed it myself or had it detailed a couple times a year. Anyhow, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Take it to a dealer and enquire. It should be repaired under the MB corrosion warranty, provided the service history is reasonable and that it hasn't had any other bodyshop work.

If your local dealer says no, try another one. And another.

Yeah, right.
I know that works in Europe, up to 8 years.
Never seen it work for anybody here, other than a springperch repair/replacement due to corrosion.

Rust Update!

Purchased Rust-Bullet!

What a great product! Has anyone tried it? I used it on the wheel well and door trim panels and this stuff is incredible! Let dry for 48 hours, sand smooth, then paint- VOILA! Rust proof protection!

I will take pictures and post for you....

Michael

Rust proofing? Hah!

<<You'll need one after 2004 or you might find the same problem.

<<I think you may be wrong>>

When MB says "Engineered like no other car", we know what that really means, don't we?

BTW, all Porsches have been 100% galvanized since 1976. That's 31 years.

I about had a heart attack when I saw rust bubbles pretty much all around the rear drivers wheel arch while detailing my car.

My car started it's life in Chicago where it spent it's first 5 years. I checked and there is an after market repair section for just the wheel arch so hopefully I will not have to replace the whole quarter. I'm not happy about it though. A 10 year old car that's lived half of it's life in TX and GA should be pretty close to rust free.
