Exclamation rear window rust... son of a #^@($

What should I do? Only area of serious rust on the car but it is really bad.... bodyshop guy recommended using fiberglass... I dont know about that though... anyone on the forum in the chicagoland area that can help me fix this?

This panel is still available from Mercedes. I payed £42, so about $80 in the US.

I guess it depends on how long you are planning on keeping the car as to what route you take.

Fiberglass is what you use if you are going to sell the vehicle,,, real quick. Metal needs to be welded in for a long term repair.

Pete, why does the fiberglass not work as well? It seems like it would be okay in a spot where structural strength is not required. Does it delaminate from the metal over time or something?

Just will not give the strength and rust usually reappears soon around a fiberglass/bondo repair. If there was metal there to start with, I put metal there to replace it. Those huge bubbles on bodys are usually a sign of fiberglass/bondo work.

I agree with Pete. Cut it out and weld in a new piece. What part of Chicago are you in?
