Impact Strip Replacement (W124)

Hey Guys,
My beautiful wife "removed" part of the impact strip on the front bumper of my 1995 E300. I've purchased a new one, but do I need to remove the bumper to replace this? Or can I reach the necessary screws with the bumper installed?
Thanks,
John

when I replaced the shroud on my 126, I removed the bumper. It wasn't hard to remove and made the job a lot easier.

Not sure about the 124 though.

removing the front bumper off a w124 is so easy, a caveman could do it just jack up the front and you will see nuts on the inner middle portion of the bumper. there are large, plastic cushions for lack of a better description between the bumper and the frame.

So is the impact strip the hard plastic part that surrounds the front bumper? The thing that's been cracked for years and that I just broke leaning on it as I pulled myself up from replacing the oil pan drainbplug while changing the oil/filter?

From Bob's description it appears the bumper of the W124 is easy enough to remove and will help to facilitate the replacement of the impact strip. How about some imput on where to source a new impact strip fellas. We're on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

BTW Bob, like your biodiesel blog. We've been burning the stuff for over 10 years now. Never going back to the Devil's Tea.

.
Go to (EuroPartsDirect.com) and search for P/N (MBZ037028). $35 for a nice, OEM quality, Ziegler front impact strip. Nice and black....and shiny......

Thanks for the input John, but isn't this the part I need;

The center part which actually covers the bumper is not damaged, it's the part surrounding the bumper that is damaged.
