Aluminum Trim Removal and Restoration

All of my exterior trim is removed for a paint job, I have the opportunity to send it out to a "chrome" company, should this stuff be "chromed" or something else?

I wouldn't chrome it. It is hard enough to get them to chrome steel properly, let alone any other material.

I really do not know the right answer to this since I always just bought new pieces when I pulled something like this apart. It was cheaper and easier to do that than to try to have someone fix the finish.

Anyone have any advice?

They are impossible to clean up. I have tried SemiChrome with no success and it will polish just about anything.

Is It (only)Aluminum ?

'Seems to have some sort of coating/finish or it's an Alloy.
Once that outer "Shine" is gone...It's gone for good.

Well in that case there is little point trying to polish it then.

You might be able to find a company that specialises in electro-plating - once re-coated then you could then in principle polish the new surface. But this would probably be way more expensive than buying a replacement part.

Those parts are anodized aluminum.

I understand they can be redone:http://www.finishing.com/141/22.shtml
