1970 280SE axle carrier bushing replacement

I recently read a post that may have confirmed that you may be able to replace a carrier bushing on a 1970 280SE solid split axle without removing the entire axle. This was accomplished by removing the driveshaft flange attachment to the pinion.
The removal of the flange would constitute clocking of the nut so you could replace the flange and nut to its original position without worrying about bear preload issues.
The person that wrote the post did say they had written a technical note to back the up.
Anyone aware or this.
