Be sure to tell Enrique that you are from out of town. In most cases he will take you ahead of others to accomodate your schedule.

If you can, get there just before he opens (8:00 a.m.) so he can start working on your car right away.

Good luck, sometimes misfires are very hard to diagnose...other times the source of the problem is obvious.

Well I'd really like him to do a vacuum test on the car and adjust the fuel mixture correctly. I have done alot of other stuff such as compression rates and replaced many parts, so I'll just bring along a list with me.

Happiness is.......

Taking your car to Mr MB in Tarzana, Ca. and finding out in a few minutes that your beloved car indeed does have a DUAL Timing Chain. and, though in need of replacement due to stretch, that I don't have to convert to a dual chain/Sprocket setup. Enrique will change the timing chain, guides and tensioner and do some other (annual Fluid/filter replacement and such) work. He will also do a complete inspection of the car, something I should have had done before I took possession. ( I didn't know about MR MB at that time).
It is such a relief to know that my car has had the dual timing chain. I have been worried since our GTG when Jim B and Dimetricalbenz thought that they could detect the worn chain sound at startup. I was concerned that it might give way at any time. WHEW!

The other up side is that MR MB is a 1/2 blk from the 154 Bus route stop and that bus goes to Burbank Metrolink stop and I can ride the bus and train down to pickup the car and use them for any other times Enrique has my car for more than a day. Life is good and the MB should be good engine wise for another 100,000 miles.

I do much of the work on our cars and more than once sent portions of the work down to Enrique (like having him replace just the bearings in rear axles that were pulled and sent down to him) and he seems to get positively excited when I have.

The times that I either don't have the time or the experience to do the work he has been wonderful to deal with (From out of town) for a number of reasons. He has taken care of problems when my wife had troubles when in L.A., the way I would want him to, without asking. I know I can trust him. That he won't make a bigger deal out of something in an effort to drive up the bill. He knows not only MB but BMW too. He has worked on all 3 of our German cars. He works with an ace transmission shop that my BMW went to. The trans was apart 3 times to get it right and did it all for the original quoted price. Enrique made the introduction and wanted nothing more than for the car to be fixed.

He knows how to do business old school and my opinion is that he enjoys working on cars and more than that is thrilled when he helps someone solve there problem and it shows.

Just got finished earlier today with Enrique.

Gotta say I was very impressed! He was very good at communicating what he was doing and he thinks he knows what the problem is.

Hopefully the fuel distributor is the problem like he thinks.

PS2CHO,
Sorry I missed you today. I could not get it together to get to Enrique's until afternoon. Mine was the Midnight Blue 380 SE that was there. I was really impressed at the amount of work Enrique, Carlos and his other helper(didn't get his name) did on my car. Though the bill was higher, (a bit) than I expected, when I went through all the parts and the labor it was very reasonable , and I got a great deal. Not only that, my car should be bullet proof for another year or so. Enrique did the timing chain, guides, rails, and worked hard on the AC, I needed a part that was really expensive from MB and Enrique got one fixed from his "A/C/Guy" For a great price. I now have an MB that has heat and air(when I want it) and he tuned the car and the trans to be like new. I know it is getting the best mileage that it ever has, because of the little gas gauge movement on the way home.
He changed the fuids out and did a couple other jobs that needed attention(rear window Actuator was Broken).
To say I'm impressed is not enough. I want to thank Enrique and his crew on the fine job on my car and also thank the forum for pointing me in his direction. You can bet he has a customer, or sould I say "Client" for all the work to come with my 380SE and any others that I might acquire.

The coolest thing was he didn't even charge me!
He spent like 20minutes going through stuff before coming to the conclusion the O2 sensor *might* be damaged even though it is giving a reading (I already assumed this as it had 15,000 miles worth of oil leaking through the valve stem seals).

Then he said its the fuel distributor.

As you guys said, his shop has a comfortable lounge area and I saw the plaque on the wall

Next time I am heading north I'll probably stop by and give him a bottle of wine or something nice like that.

I will for sure be going to him as well for any problems that are not DIY!

Hamel at Marina Benz

I recently bought an 86 300E, I'm the third owner and it appears to have 64,000 original miles. I have the new car sale contract from Hollywood MB, smog report from 2003 with 49k miles and service records from 2003 to present, mostly neighborhood shops on West Side. I didn't have a prepurchase inspection. Made a Saturday appt with Hamel and we took the car out for 15-20 minutes drive-fast, slow, over bumps, etc and a thorough under hood and on-the lift exam. The exhaust was in shreds-knew that, A/C didnt work, idled rough and small oil leak. Hamel assured me I bought a good car. Pointed out the problem areas on the car-Figured out a way to replace only the exhaust parts I needed for 300 bucks,( not a grand) recharged the a/c with dye installed--no leak yet and oil service. Out the door for $500.00 by 3PM. Seems to be a very straight up dude, interested in maintaining and repairing our MB cars correctly for reasonable cost. good alterantive for me to going to the Valley, I can walk down Walgrove ave to Washington to Marina Benz easliy. I will definitely go back.

Why is this in the thread on Mr. MB Motors? Start another thread.

Thanks for all the posts on Enrique and Mr. MB Motors. I took my '94 E420 there on Thursday and picked it up on Saturday morning. It had been running very poorly and idling roughly. I had looked forward to having the experience of meeting Enrique ever since I had first read so many great things about him and his shop a couple of months ago. I definitely was not disappointed and from now on I will not let anyone else work on my car. Enrique replaced the air flow sensor and the part (rebuilt) cost about $250. I checked online and a brand new one (Bosch) retails for about $850. He also replaced the purge valve and a couple of other small parts and also recharged the air conditioner which was not cooling at all. The entire bill was about $750 which I felt was most reasonable. I think that Enrique knows his stuff and is straightforward as well as honest. He mentioned a couple of other small things I might fix in the future but they were things that he did not feel were critical or anything to worry about right away. He is detail-oriented to the point that he remembered and mentioned my missing passenger side sun visor clip before I left the shop. Just add me to the list of extremely satisfied Mr. MB Motors customers.

I think I am going to hand my misfiring 300TE over to Enrique til he can figure it out. I just can't keep throwing money at this car. Needs to solved once and for all!!

check out George at MBZ Motors in Winnetka. George is a wonderful mechanic, I wish he was my doctor. He runs an impressive operation and seems to be very knowledgeable. Have seen him work on (unfortunatly) brand new SL 55's as well as 60's diesels.

Just give him a shot. I would call in advance and let him know your coming. He is located at the intersection of winnetka and roscoe.

Bombs away!

The waiting game is on now. I wonder how long it will take him to figure it out. I'll probably give him a call monday afternoon if he hasn't called me and see if there is any progression.
