Tony,

Yes, I visited his shop a few times in the last 2 months to correct a differential issue. While some people have gushed about his service, I found it to be above average. Enrique is a good person, but his assistant wasn't the friendliest of people.

Maybe my expectations were too high.

Nope...he packed up and moved back to Spain so we have lost the master of all masters. I now have to sell my 500E and get a Prius…..naw just kidding, he is very much in business and he has been warned never to retire or else.

Are you talking about Carlos? Can’t be, he’s one of the more pleasant people you will meet, or was it the newer guy?

Yup. Good news is that when that eventual day comes, he said he will not retire full-time and continue to work part-time. He'll shuttle back and forth between his Northern Spain home and here.

But...his daughter broke my heart when she got married the other year. She's a real beauty!

I was sent a PM asking what the "contents" of this post contained. It had nothing to do with Enrique, his shop, his staff, or their abilities. This was my reply to the PM:

Just something about how beautiful I think his daughter is. It is not really respectful to be talking about his daughter this way. Nothing crude or nasty, I just didn't feel "right" after posting it. Sort of like I betrayed his confidence. Enrique and his family are fantastic people who deserve the utmost respect.

Comparison

I posted a comparison review between Enrique's MR MB Motors in Tarzana and Pedro at Boulevard Auto in Van Nuys. Both were good, but different.

I just took my car there today. He really is a great person, he installed 2 oil cooler hoses, oil filter housing gasket, turbo oil return gaskets, some tranny gaskets, fixed antenna, diagnosed vacuum system and test drove my car with me and tweaked the engine for $750. I also saw the plaque that some members gave to him, very knowledgeable and straightforward person. It's really helpful if you know Spanish because you really get to know him and even his helpers, I got a lot of insightful information.

He also refused to provide a proper receipt on both occasions that I went there - he's a nice guy as long as he's taking cash under the table

I've been going to Mr. MB Motors for years, and I've never seen him take cash, request cash, or been offered cash from a customer.

Futhermore, if you've been to a dealer, you'll know that his hourly rate doesn't even touch what the dealer's charge. His hourly rate isn't different from what you'll pay at Manny, Moe and Jack.

Last, he generally buys OE aftermarket parts, just like we all buy from the Parts Shop here at the ShopForum, which are a considerable discount from the same part from the dealer.

Ha, last time I was there he claimed his computer didn't work and he just sort of sat there at his desk in silence for ~2 minutes, maybe waiting for me to tell him i didn't need an invoice? then he reluctantly wrote a piece of paper with no date, mileage, etc... and named the front brake pads as "FBP" without saying what kind they are.

he charged me $100 and change for front brake pads (just the part). I called the Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills dealer who he apparently worked for in the past.....and that is the Dealer price. As you say that he doesn't use Dealer parts, it truly proves the ripoff.

I said he charges dealer prices ($100 and change for front brake pads - that's just the parts) and he actually claimed he bought the pads "from the Dealer." I don't believe him nor is it your opinion or experience that he buys parts from the Dealer. So, Dealer prices for cheap parts so he can make more of a profit off the consumer.

Not sure why anyone would go2 this shop - and I won't be back except to perhaps meet a reprsentative of the BAR there.

Arrow mr mb IS A GREAT SHOP, by * any * measure!! For customers near or far!!!

Based on the recommendations on here, when possible, or when a REALLY important or large job was necessary on either of my two coupes, I would take them to him.

He has done work on BOTH of my cars - and I am ALWAYS well satisfied.

Here is one of them in his shop, last year:

I live over 500 miles away, and he knows that.

Before I come down, I call for the appointment, and he is able to clear his calendar for my car to go first that day. If necessary, he can provide me with a loaner car to use.

He does it right the FIRST time. NEVER had a comeback, which is good because each one would be another 1,000 mile round trip for me to have to make.

At $80 per hour his labor rates are a bargain compared to the Northern California Mercedes Benz dealers which charge $175 an hour for the same work, and they do NOT give personalized service, and can't always be trusted to do it right the first time.

Also some of their techs don't even work on these older cars, at all and some Mercedes Benz dealers won't even take them anymore.

Enrique knows them intimately.

Also, he explains his work thoroughly, and will NOT "oversell" extra un needed work.

He actually told me, "I only will do the work that
is needed, I would never try to add on things that are not needed, to do that would be to cheat my customers".

For example, last year my black car was starting to smoke badly, at about 160k or so miles.

I was adding a quart of oil every 300 miles too.

It could have needed a rebuilt motor, new valves, new valve guides, a top end job, or who knows what.

I could have been stuck with a $7,000 - $12,000 new engine build, if sold by an unscrupulous shop.

MR MB's response was different: "I think maybe the way to save you the most money is to try and fix the valve seal GUIDES. That may be enough."

I said: "OK let's try that."

It was amazing. The 560SEC coupe (which had enjoyed 3,000 mile oil changes by me for 15 years or so) completely and immediately stopped smoking.

It ran 2200 miles before it needed a quart of oil!!!!

MR MB's bill was about $750 or so for this.

Even with a 1,000 mile RT journey to his shop and an overnighter in a nearby hotel in Encino, and used his loaner,

It was TOTALLY worth it.

My service and repair work from him is EXCELLENT and reasonably priced.

Over and over.

Nobody like MR MB.

Let's see the repair bill - not that I don't believe you, haha.

Then we can see what parts he sold and for what price, right?

The reviews on this mechanic have not been all that great - from what i read.
