I have a 1991 300E with the dreaded three piece setup. The cassette loading mechanism quit working so I am looking to add CD/MP3 playing or replace it with a new head unit. I did do a search and read a lot of messages but I still have a few questions.

1) I could go with an RF modulator. Since the antenna jack for the tuner is in the truck. It seems it is very easy to add the RF modulator in the truck. My question is this. Is the Mercedes antenna plug universal so the plug of an RF modulator can directly plug into the tuner?

2) Do most RF modulator accepts line out or speaker out? I ask this because I have a portable CD/MM3 player and an IPOD Mini with headphone out. If I can feed the modulator with that, then all I need is a modulator. Otherwise I need a CD changer for the modulator.

3) If I add the modulator in the truck, what is the easiest way to bring power to it? I saw the power jack to the antenna. Maybe I can splice some wires to that plug.

4) Overall, what is the sound quality of RF modulator? I know it will not be CD quality but is it acceptable?

4) If I add a new head unit, it seems it is the easiest to get the speaker wires from the current amps outputs in the truck. What are the color codes for all these wires on the amp outputs?
