92 300D front door speakers. Problems with size

I need to replace the door speakers. I have taken them out. They are at a 7inch ears diameter. When I measure without the ears they are 6 1/8. See picture.

The stock speaker is 2 1/2 deep.

So far I have ordered a pair of Diamond Audio M361i. I am going to see if they fit.

Does anyone have any recommendations of speakers that they put in?

The positioning of the speakers is not the best. I do not want to redo the door panel.

Thank you

Nick Mendoza

Hey,

I am also looking for a good speaker to swap into the doors in my 92. Please keep this thread posted with your findings!

What did you put up in the dash?

What I have done with W124

La Jolla Audio, San Diego Ca. ask for Scott.

Rainbow makes some great exact fit replacement speakers for the front and rear.
You will probably have to replace the little strips of plastic next to the speakers (front). I broke mine. They are like $4.00 at the dealership.
Pull the old ones out, replace them with the rainbows = that is it. I will recommend that you have an amplifier to back them up. I could not belive the difference that it made. The back ones are simple.

I am working on the middle sections of the doors.

I had to take the seats out (front and rear) run new wires and antenna wire. They went to the head unit. I also ran some wires not attached yet, next to the doors. I also installed a new head unit.

Bass: You will have to do some cutting. If you want,, I can post what I have done. It was inspired by what Scoot did with his W124.

I've heard about those speakers on the board here before. Are they 4 ohm? The 6 ohm mercedes ones are a bit weird.

Thanks!

I think that they are 4ohm.

I got the number to La Jolla Audio. Scott has really helped me out.

I am looking to install Diamond Audio M361i 6 1/2 speakers.

I have ordered them. When they get here, I will post. Hopefully they fit. they are 2 /12 deep. Exact depth of the original ones.

I fit a 6.5" infinity in mine. I had to cut the back of the box around the magnet for them to fit but they fit.

My car is a 300Ce, not a 4 door, but I think the size should be almost the same.

Regards,

Alon
