1992 E190 2.3 stereo Help
I received a 1992 E190 2.3 from my dad.
It has the stock radio with the 6 tape changer configuration. I've ordered some 4" dash speakers and 4 6.5" speakers for the doors/and rear was that a wise decision? will it work? Also i have no real use for the 6 tape changer. I was looking around on the boards and saw 2phast had a replacement for the headunit. I asked my dad [a mercedes benz mechanic] and he said that he could not find a after market shop or could not get it from the dealership that he works at. Any ideas on what i should do? Also i noticed that 2phast got a replacement cd changer. Will that work with the stock radio? and what model should i be looking for? |

First, the dash speakers will fit, tightly, but will fit. Make sure you seat them all the way down so that the shaped speaker grills fit. 6.5" rounds will fit in the rear deck without hitting any metal, but they (with the speaker grills) will sit very close to the rear window, so measure carefully when installing them. As for the doors, the speakers are part of the active bass system, not full range drivers, so replacing them won't do much for you unless you rewire.
The map pocket to replace the cassette holders is a Mercedes part. Ask your dealer to order part number 201 683 00 91. 2Phast replaced the original car stereo cassete deck with an MP3 capable CD player. Any car unit that fits in a single DIN space will work with the W201. |

What would be a good replacement for the door panels then? or would it be better overall just to rewire it?
and for cd player? what part is that or what model should i be looking at? And will there be any extra wiring that will be needed for the cd player? Last edited by adidasrta; 11-10-2004 at 01:49 AM. |
