Anyone Have a Vintage Becker?

Hi all-

The inevitable happened- recent service to Pearl put the radio in SAFE mode. Said radio is a VW Premium AM/FM Cassette- a nice unit. THe PO even wrote the radio code on the bill of sale- I tried it a few times and a few different ways but it didn't work! The code has a "0" in it, but there's no "0" button on the radio. She's a gonner!

What I'd like is a 70's vintage Becker like what the original would have been, or maybe even an older one. Preferably NOT working, so I can get it cheap or free. I could take a stab at fixing it- I am no stranger to radios.

Any offers???

Dave

I think I have one from late 70;s early 80s. Becker with cassette. I'll look around. Send me a PM if you don't hear from me in a few days. I may not have all of the mounting hardware.

I have an old Becker

I have an old Becker Europa, probably original from my 78 280E Euro, sitting in my garage, hoping to find a new home. Do you (or someone else) want it? I would hate to just throw it away. No cassette, 5 button - L,M,K,U,U,U. Europa; 460; P 5009895

I have an '87, but I guess that's hardly "vintage." I'll check my dad's old '75 240D and see what's in that next time I get a chance.

Who did the rebuild? What did it cost and how long did it take?

I had it rebuild by Walter Odemer in Burbank, CA. He loves old Mercedes', he designs and makes all kind of little parts for them, I don't know his exact story but he seems to be an authority on Becker Audio.

All together it was $279, not cheap, took about a week.

His number is 818-846 2819.

Ask for Ed Abel. He's a good guy and he might have one he can sell. He does a great job with repairs.
