How do I get my 560 to sound better?

I am really clueless when it comes to sound systems, I have the original Becker sterio with a 10 disc CD changer in the trunk that runs through the Becker and original speakers in my 1990 560 SEL. The sound is terrible and the back speakers don't have any sound. I don't want to put a bunch of money into it. I listen to classical music so I don't need something that is real loud or fancy, just clear and crisp. What is usually the reason for the back speakers to quit? How do I get the sound to come in clearer? How do I know if my car has the premium sound system?
Thanks

Buy new dash and rear deck speakers. 4X6" or 4" in the dash, 6.5" in the deck. Install a new radio, and wire the speakers to the radio (don't use the factory wiring). You can get a basic decent system like this for $300.

Usually the factory amplifier craps out.

Cleaner sound comes from better drivers (speakers) and more (clean) power.

Premium system is 10 speakers as I recall. 6 in the rear, 2 in the doors, 2 in the dash.

Now the way to go about this can vary greatly. If ya do, go with a new head unit that will provide good power output. It's still deck power but will be more than sufficient for your needs. Usually about 44-50watts peak power will do about 15-18rms.

I'd look for one that'll support sat radio for the future as well as alternate forms media capacity... MP3, WMA, etc. Just incase.

Oh yes, speaker wise... listen to some. See what you like. Polks sound nice to me but really love power. Look for products with a high sensitivity level as they will play better with lower power input

Thanks

Thank you both for the replys, I accidently unplugged something under the passenger floor mat and toasted the factory radio so I will be putting in a new one, which isn't much of a loss as I didn't like the original one anyway.
Thanks again,
