Hello,
I purchased a pair of Infinity Kappa 52.1i speakers for my 89 300e and i installed them today. I tried them out and they sounded terrible....they were installed in the rear. Did i do something wrong???The stock speakers were louder and sounded much better than the kappas...please help..

Thanks

I think you need to run an amp to those speakers.

a few things - first of all, they arent hooked up to a factory amp, are they? that would be bad for them... The problem is probably that you're running very little power to them, at full pass. They work best with an amp providing at least 50 watts rms, and a high pass crossed over at about 200hz - the midbass on these speakers is pretty bad, but the highs are incredible.

Are you using the stock system otherwise? Regrettablt that's a no-no; moyukh"s nailed this one.

If indeed this is the case, Sorry...you're likely in for a more comprehensive upgrade. Best of luck!

I'm not too sure if your car has internal amps; if it does you'll have to redo the whole system (pick up a new amp or a new head unit), otherwise take a look at infinity references, they sound great off head unit power. Pretty good bass too; you won't get much bass out of small speakers, especially without an amp.
