amp in trunk

I have been running a 2/1 channel amp in the trunk to power a box sub.
I just picked up a 4/3/2 channel to run the other speakers with.
Gonna mount it in the trunk also.
Can I jump the power, ground, and "on" wires from the existing amp to the new one? Less than a foot of wire will be involved in each.
I don't want to have to run a new power wire all the way through the interior and I am not using a real high powered set up.
The sub amp is 250W and the other will be 50w/channel max.
I won't have it anywhere near redlined ever.

According to current guidelines you should be running a minimum of an 8 guage wire to the trunk to power those 2 amps. If you don't they will be current starved and will not give you the headroom you need. Are those wattage ratings in RMS or Music Power. If the ratings are music power they will need less current.

Yeah thanks
Not RMS.

What I was looking for was whether I could 'split' the power wire and ground to hook up two amps where now there is one. The power wire in there now is at least 8 gauge.

Yes, but do it right, spend the $10 and buy one of those blocks that splits the wire...

Dont try to do it at the amp, by sticking two wires into the first amp... especially with the ground, your ASKING to create one hell of a ground loop and alternator noise.

Take care,

George

I would go to Wal-Mart and get a 1400watt wiring kit. Lay the power wire, use the distrubution block they give you, and what ever else wires need by laid...Splice the remote turn on wires. And fine another ground spot. This way your power is safe. The kit is designed for 2 amps. Comes with 2 sets of RCA wires and it only costs 25us. 100amp fuse too.
