Hi all, I have my 82 300SD. It currently has stock speakers and a Panasonic Cassette radio in it. I am thinking on doing a full Blaupunkt conversion.

Headunit is first priority. I already have a Blaupunkt CDC-RF6 6 Disc CD changer mounted in-trunk. I want to get a BP CD Head-unit with MP3 support as well as AUX input AND CD-Changer control. I was thinking their Monterrey unit with the customizable color display?

speakers: What stock sized Blaupunkt speakers will fit this car? High wattage won't be neccessary, won't need to be over 40 watt. Also, NO SUBS!!

amp: I think I may add a small blaupunkt external amp after the in-console fader dial (which I DEFINATELY want to keep), maybe something like a 4x40 watt or somethin.

What think?

If you already have a newer HU in there, get some speakers BEFORE going to another headunit. Those stock speakers are comical at best, not to mention they're around 20 years old now too.

I found a set of Blau 4x6s out at the boneyard I put in my SD's dash. They sound fine and fit with no hacking that I recall.

Not sure why you're anti a subwoofer, there's a lot of sound in the bottom end that 4x6s can't fill. People choose to make it "boomy" and rattle their cars. Great, I like clean bass that supports the existing music.

Adding a real amplifier (which I highly recommend) will render that center fader useless. It only has the capacity to hold 20watts or something. Just look for a amp that makes good power at its RMS figure at 12V. 35-50rms should be fine. Distortion is very low with a real amp compared to any headunit.

I think I know where you are coming from with your adversity to subs because I was the same way. I didn't want heavy bass eminating from my respectable benz as I drove around but I still ended up putting a 12 inch sub in my trunk and basically all it does for me is balance out my music instead of obnoxiously rattling windows as I drive by. So if you're gonna put new speakers in your car, you would be better off with at least a 10 inch sub for balancing purposes. Also, if you put in a sub, you could do some loq and high pass filtering to keep lows away from your in dash and other small speakers to try and preserve them longer.

ive replaced the front 4x6 speakers with some $20 precision audio they sound great but i have a stupid loud setup in the car so my 4x6's are hardly even heard.

my setup
Two MTX 12' 400w subs in bandpass box
MTX 425w AMP
Two SDAT 6.5 speakers mounted on front doors
Two SDAT 6x9 speakers mounted where the medical kit used to be
4 SDAT's powered by a 400w 4ch audiovox amp
SDAT mp3 head unit

How about replacing both the front 4x6's and the rear ones with Blaupunkt PCx462 speakers? Anyone have experience with em?

Also, I am thinking, maybe the center fader can be modified to run at line level before going to an external amp. Basically, have four inputs going in, so that when the fader is in the center, then the headunit can be used for fader, FIE, etc.....

OK, just put in new Blaupunkts all around. 5.25 in the rear deck, slight trimming needed. I put 3.5 in the dash but you'll need to predrill holes for the new mount tabs. The size is smaller than the original 4's but the sound is much better. This isn't a whopping system but it kicks fine without annoying the neighbors.

Bermuda deck slid in with any mods. Plays MP3's, sub outputs if needed, a remote included, nice styling (black) red at night, and the most important part has an optional input for iPod .... critical, never need a disc changer again!. Run the AUX jacks through the ashtray and hide them when not using. iPod has an RCA cable that is about 3 ft and you can put in right under the armrest.

Got it all from crutchfield and although the directions were for a w126 is was close enough with some help from members here.
Oh, and the speakers were $78 for all 4, delivered the next day .... not too shabby.
I just ran the connections to the existing fader (mine works fine), but will run direct wires during the winter downtime along with some dynomat.

Why the round trim-to-make-fit speakers? Why not just stick with stock 4x6's?

dont use the 4" wont fit without cutting just buy some 4x6 that will drop right in like these.

Obviously you guys have different speakers than the 300 coupes. I have 5.25 in the back (orig were closer to 5, that's why trimming was needed).
Yes, the 4's will not fit in front. I think the 4M's will but didn't buy them to try. I read somewhere the 4 M is for metric and the sizing is geared for euro cars and sizing is a closer if not perfect fit.
