I bought my 2000 ML without a CD changer.
At was a Fry's the otehr day and I saw a Soney CD changer for $150 dollars (good deal). I ask if it would work on my ML. He said that the soney will only work with the FM station on my radio and I cannot not use it with the intergrated system on my ml. My question is what would I be looking for on a CD changer to allow me to hook it up with the intergrated system in my ML. ben

I saw an article some time ago on http://www.edmunds.com in the ML discussion area of town hall, about using a 3rd party changer along with the ML. There was an example with a ’99 and later one with a y2k version. I don’t remember the details. You can get the genuine article from http://www.clairparts.com at a reasonable discount over what most dealers charge. You might also check with partsshop at this web site to see if they offer it. If they do, they usually give a nice discount as well.

I'm sure Sony makes a model with changer control which is more compatible than the model at Fry's. The issue will be the connector in the pre-wiring of the ML. Mine has the MB unit which looks like an alpine unit I used to have.
I suggest you go to a local car stereo shop, they will look at the wires and suggest a model which will probably be priced as well as Fry's comparable model! If you got the standard radio, you may want to look at upgrading the speakers as well... Good luck!

I have a brand new factory CD changer out of an ML. Not sure if it was a 00 or a 01. I can check if you are interested.

I don't care what anyone else has to say about this...The only CD changer that will totally integrate to the MCS unit on the ML is the MB changer. The 2000 is different than the 2001. The 2001 changer went D2B fiber optic. The 98, 99, and 2000 are all essentially the same, I don't believe the 2000 is different just because the radio went to the MCS. On the 2001 changer, it looks like the same one used in the MB cars, and you will see the fiber optic port. Also the non-D2B will have a rather large electrical connector, while the D2B has a small electrical connector just for power, ground and wake-up signal.......Gilly
