Does anyone know of an aftermarket adapter to connect an Alpine 6 disk CD changer to the trunk mounted section of a Becker's BE1432 unit. The factory adapter runs anywhere from $220.00 to $250.00. After posting several questions here about how to add a CD changer to my 1991 420SEL, I decided to go with the stock Becker unit already in the car and then adding a CD changer (not an RF modulator) and run it through the factory installed trunk unit. Now all I need to do is find an aftermarket interface that will do the trick and not cost an arm and a leg...In the pursuit of a CD changer I am willing to sacrifice either an arm OR a leg, but NOT both :-)

Thanks for all of your past and future help.

I have been thinking of adding a changer to my 93 300e as well. From the reading that i have done on this page and other searches, I believe that a company called PIE or PEI offers very good adapters for minimal cost. That is what i plan to go with eventually.

Let me know if you get the Alpine 6 disc changer to work with your factory stereo. My research says it can't be done on a 91 W126 with off the shelf adapters. I went the RF route, but I have access to a couple of Alpine changers so I'm interested in how you get your changer to work.

Thanks,
Sixto

Sixto:

There is a company in California (Chastworth) that makes after-market adapters for hook-up an Alpine 6 CD changer to a Beckers BE 1432 (I am assuming that's the one in your car). The company's name is "Precision-something-or the other" (sorry I can't remember their full name). their web address is:

http://www.pie.net

They make an interface that will let you hook up an alpine 6 CD changer to your stereo. They make two of the electrical harnesses, but you still need to buy the third harness from M-B. The price is not cheap, however. You can also get the three harnesses directly from M-B. The part numbers are:

Q-6-82-0135 (cost about $150.00--usually out of stock)
Q-6-82-0174 (cost about $50.00)
Q-6-82-0175 (cost about $100.00)

So all the wiring you need will cost about $300.00 if you buy all three parts from M-B. With PIE you only need to buy part Q-6-82-0135 from M-B and the other two cables from PIE (for about $120.00 for both cables).

So with M-B you pay about $300.00. With PIE you pay about $270.00, a savings of $30.00. PLUS the cost of the CD changer.

In my forever to be humble opinion, if your current M-B system works OK and you have access to an Alpine unit that works with the above-mentioned set-up, then I would go that route instead of RF modulator. You can also buy a cassette-radio-CD controller set up for a little more money, but I'd prefer to keep my system as stock as possible.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

To connect the six disc MB or Alpine changer to the 1432 you will need an interface from your MB dealer and some cables. It is my understanding that MB is sold out on the interface. But do check with your MB dealer to make sure.
