Becker GP eletronic mildew will retouching solder fix?
I took off the lower and upper covers... no obvious rings on the joints. (man there are a lot of joints...) should I wash the thing in bleach? rinse then wash in windex, rinse in distilled water and bake?
should I throw it away? John

Drop yellit a private message. He does a lot of marine radar I believe. He may have good knowledge of electronic components and mildew. In my twenty five years in electronics I never once had to deal with mildew. My first thought was the conductivity issue.
Since I assume it is not working now you have nothing to loose other than a little time. I am just not sure what I would use to clean with initially. Also you are talking about the printed circuit board side at present. There should be a simular problem on the component side. At least I think mildew is alkaline. If it is acidic I suspect nothing would be succesful. All your intermediate frequency transformers then for example might be junk. Thats just for starters. |
