Frozen Antenna: Any Damage?

When my antenna won't go up because it's frozen, am I correct to assume that no damage is being done to the motor/mechanism?

Turn the antenna off. Saves the wear on the clutch mechanism. Thats what the switch on the dash is for.

I don't believe I have such a switch.
