I have read that the later USA models of the W124 could be ordered with door sides for speakers (6"). Could the coupe (C124) also be ordered with the speaker door sides? Does someone have a picture of these door sides? Can I buy this side pocket at MB and retrofit it on my car?

Thanks! /Patrik

I think that the picture below displays a door panel on a W124 coupe with door speaker...

(the picture is taken from Peter Hacks photo page and the owner is/was Jeff Knudtson)

I think you can just order the speaker fitted door panels at your MB dealer...I have seen a W201 with OEM speakers in the door panels in the Netherlands once...and therefore I guess that these door panels should be for sale in europe as well.

If this application is like other W124s, the grille shown in the picture does nothing other than cover the speaker-the speaker is not mounted to the door panel, but rather the dor frame. In my '92 cars, there is a speaker enclosure that bolts directly to the door frame-the iner door panel merely covers these enclosures. The earlier doors were not designed with these enclosures in mind, so be sure to tear your door down and remove everything before you take the plunge.

Good luck!

I am pretty sure that they are 6" with a 2.75 deapth restrictions.
If you are thinking about some upgrades, I recommand you reus system. They have a custom design system for the W124 system and they are on sale.

Reus systems knows what they are doing. They have been doing MB since the 70's.

Thanks for the information Pete, but I am not looking for an upgrade. Patrick (the Swede) was asking about the door panel speakers they use to have in the US (this is not an European standard issue) and therefore I posted that picture. I have never seen a W124 with speaker containing door panels in the Netherlands...
