W126 radio wires and 1V where there should be 12V
I'm installing a CD player in my '89 300SEL and have run into two problems.
The first is that the always-powered wire to the harness has only 1 volt instead of 12. It makes it so the stereo doesn't work at all. (If I jump a 12v wire to it all is good.) The second problem is I don't know what most of the wires do. I think I have the power and antenna wires figured, but am without a guess on the speakers. In the picture I've attached, the wires coming from the top are from the dash, the wires exiting the bottom are from a new adapter attached at the plug I've labeled "4". Here is what I think I know (reference numbers are from the picture): 1 - I believe this to be the power antenna wire. 2 - Clearly the antenna reception plug. 3 - A guess is the anti-theft system (if correct do I need to do anything with these wires?) 3A - Looks like a ground to me. 4 - 3 power wires (always-on, switched, and illumination) and a ground wire. 5 - Speakers maybe? 5A - Looks like a ground. So where do I hook up my 8 speaker wires (from the cd player)? And, how do I fix my 1 volt problem? Thanks. -Brett Last edited by BrettS; 09-13-2007 at 12:17 AM. |

5 is all factory alarm stuff.
4 is the original power to the deck. Brown is ground; black should be constant 12v; violet/grey is dimmer; red/white should be switched 12v. 3 is for factory midbass in doors 2 runs to the antenna 1 should be the switched for the antenna
