W123 radio removal

Fellow Listers,

As the '84 300CD that I've owned for the last eight years is my first diesel and the first Benz that I've ever owned, I could use some advice explaining how to adjust the valves on a diesel, as well as, telling me which interior panels have to be removed in order to remove the original am/fm radio/cassette unit from the center dash.
Thanks in advance for any helpful hints you can offer.

Sincerely,

HotRod Diesel

I think you need the little tools that slide into the side and depress the springs to slide it out

my aftermarket radio is held in by a snug fit

You have to remove the ashtray {push tab at back and pull out}. Then you remove the two Phillips screws you see below and pull the ashtray surround piece out. {unplug wiring harness to cig lighter}
Then on either side under the radio you have to pull two tabs down that are holding on to the bottom of the radio.
What radio are you removing? Does it work? Many folks like the original Becker 612's, me being one of them....

You have owned a CD for the last eight years and you have had the valves adjusted at a shop or they haven't been adjusted?
