93 W140 500SEL Audio System problems
Folks,
I recently acquired a beautiful '93 500SEL, but it has a Sony radio head that makes lots of noise and the system does not play sounds. I was told that when the original radio went bad that the fellow was at wits end and he got someone to install the Sony unit, but it doesn't work. The question is, what do you guys have to say about any fancy considerations one must assess or codes, etc., to get things to work. Seems that the amplifier works (lots of speaker sound when the unit is turned on). The configuration is probably not done properly. Also, I would prefer to have original or near original equipment in the instrument panel (not that the Sony head doesn't look good in the console). |

If someone clobbed up the system you have your hands full. The car started out with a two piece radio, control in front, tuner in trunk, with a large din cable. The fader on the console acted on the amp.
The audio was sent to a seven channel Bose amp ( over rear wheel next to gas tank) driving eleven speakers, four rear deck, one each rear door two each in front doors, a tweeter behing the rear view mirror. The outboard speakers on the dash were for the CTEL and had no audio function. |
