Nope, they don't rattle at all. From what I have read, which was a long time ago, the best position for the sub is facing across the trunk sideways. I don't have the technical answer, but I can say from experience with the Basslink and the W126 that nothing rattles, the bass is pure and deep, and the sound waves go right through those plastic trays.

Good point. I bypassed the fader, but those tiny oval speakers are fine off the stock wiring. I can't recall the exact numbers, but the fronts are Eclipse and the rears Sony, all high-end stuff.

As simple as it gets. I'll come back and correct this later when the new one arrives, if wrong, so as I remember the W126 install, power is off the 12V feed to the antenna, 1 ground, also to the antenna harness, and a pair of wires to each of the rear speakers. The unit senses voltage to the speakers and turns on/off automatically. An alternative wiring is to use a remote turn-on signal, such as the antenna trigger, and use RCA leads from the head unit.

Not trying to persuade you out of getting the Basslink, it has excellent reviews--but if money is your priority you can definitely do it for half the price and get a more fitting system.

Ah yes, but can you get the same punch out of a boxed sub less than 1.5 cu ft in size and still have trunk space? We use out Mercedes on trips, mainly, so I can't sacrifice precious cargo space. Just for giggles, check out my webpage and see what I did over the years with the streetrod sound system. Same deal re. trunk space...but I went all out on that project, and it sounds waaay better than anything the Basslink could deliver...but not at the cost.
