2nd replacement radio 95 e320 AM stations fades in + out

I'd had my radio replaced 2 times because the Am stations constantly fades in and out (AM volume is at its max but radio can't be heard). When this happens the FM stations works just fine with no problems. I'm now told that it's the areas that I'm driving in that is causing this to happen. I drive and have driven other cars and none of the others have this problems. Dealership has no clue. This has become pretty frustrating because the dealership can't solve. (FYI: 95 E320, replaced while under warranty, now under the MB's starmark warranty.)Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Thumbs up

You might have a bad antenna. I have seen lots of cars with this problem and found a fix. If the am fm radio is wired to the rear window for its antenna, I have found the fix to get the am-fm-cellular splitter off a 93 car for the power antenna and move the antenna line from the rear window to the power antenna as it is on the earlier cars. The power antenna is better suited for am and this usually will fix the problem.

another possibility!

Had this happen to me!

My '94 E320 had the AM/FM antenna and the telephone all in the main antenna (the one that goes up and down!).

But on my '94 S500, the FM antenna is in the bumper but the AM antenna is in the back window, part of the heater wires! The FM reception was great but AM was almost non existant!

Just so happens that the window had metalized tint put on and it took myself and a 'radio expert' a lot of time before we realized that it was the metal tint in the film. Yes, we thought that it was the antenna cable, etc. but it was none of that.

Rather than take it off, I changed all connections to be like the '94 E320; ie all in the antenna.
