W123 Non-Typical Speaker Questions
hey all, i've got a euro 280E w123 that was optioned without rear speakers. the speaker deck just has the first aid kit, the rest is intact with full carpet across the whole thing.
does this mean i can just cut any size rear speaker holes i want? is there any metal body holes or brackets under there that would keep me from just doing what i need for any speaker i set i buy? regardless, anyone have any tips to do this? i have a somewhat rare interior color so i figured rather than just trying to find it at a junkyard i'd cut my own holes. good idea/bad idea? are there other parts i'm not aware of that set in there that i'll need to pull from the junkyard? thanks!

There is a metal shelf under the carpet that you may need to cut as well. Both of my cars have indentations for the speakers and yours may as well. It is best to remove the carpet to see what you are dealing with. If at all possible I would avoid cutting the carpet if you ever wanted to go back to the original look.
