Question CD Changer for 500E?

I want to install a CD changer into my 1993 500E that connect to the factory pre-wire connections in the trunk, while still using the original factory head unit.

I've heard that I need to either install an Alpine unit plus adaptor and MBZ brackets that costs $85. Is this the most cost effective method for intallation? Also a retailer also advise me to find a used Becker 10 disc changer unit (model number BE-980) with original MB brackets.

Please inform if anyone went through this purchasing decision, and what was your decision.

Thank you!

Henry Liu

I'm happy with the stock Alpine CD Changer that was OEM MB retail center installed stock.

I believe that it can be purchased new today for about $250.

Hope this helps.

The 93 has a different radio than the 94 and requires more parts to install a cd changer into it. The factory cd changer was a 980 becker but they are no longer made. There is a translator that allows the alpine m-bus cd changer to work with the becker radio and three cables are needed that allow it to be plugged into the tuner module in the trunk. There is a total cost of@ $550.00 for all of the parts including the cd changer.

...maybe worth swapping out to the '94 head unit and '94 Alpine CD changer

these may be had from the MB boneyards cheap? (since they were common to E320, E420, and E500)
