I assume an integrated cell phone can be installed after-the-fact in my 96 E320 because the manual says so

ss109,
I had a '96 E Class with a Factory Phone, it was very nice AND very expensive. Just before I bought the car I was looking at buying a used '92 300D and looked into installing a Mercedes integrated phone. Everything was available from the dealer, and if I remember, it cost about $1,200. I was told that the wiring harness is all in place. Where you may run into trouble with doing it after the fact would be the antenna. On my '96 EClass, the radio antenna was in the front or rear glass, I don't remember which, and the phone antenna was an extendable antenna that was in the left rear fender. Another thing to keep in mind is that the factory phone is analog. I just got analog service Friday for the phone in my 300E because I live in the boondocks it's the only thing that works everywhere. The carriers are trying to phase it out. They can put so many more phone numbers on the digital systems that they can make a lot more money. Good luck, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 523K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |
