I bought a 1998 SLK 230 with the built in phone. The dealer said it was analog and pretty much useless. The AT&T guy said a 1998 isn't that old and should be digital. If it is analog, he said he could set it up for around $50/mth for 30 min. I have to get him the ESN and he can tell, but does anyone know which is is??
Thanks! |

Type of Cell Phone in '98 SLK
I am pretty certain that M-B was using the Motorola analog flip phone in 1998. I don't agree that it is useless. It performs rings around the digital phones when you are in sparsley populated areas because it has more transmitter power when its in the car. The big problem is that you can't get nationwide plans on them and therefore rack up roaming charges when you are outide of the home calling area. Audio quality is superior to digital phones, in my opinion. Don't rip it out. Give it a chance.

MB did not install digital phones until mid MY 2000. If your phone is an OE, it is analog. MB has made a lot of phone changes since 2000 and each phone has its own advantages.
