Is old cell phone setup useable?
Okay, here's a weird question that I just thought of. I hope thi sis the right board to be putting this *lol*
I've got what appears to be a very old car phone setup in my 300D. It includes the antenna (goes through the top of the rear window), an amp (I've been asked numerous times if it was a radio amp), and a plug in the center console that looks almost like the printer end of a PC printer cable. I do NOT have a receiver. Anyone know how dated this setup is? Is it compatible with anything on the market today? If I can use it for a fairly low rate, I may look into re-installing a receiver and activating a service, but if it's too outdated to work on any modern system, I'll just pull the stuff out. I don't have a name-brand, although something's probably on the amp (I've never looked closely at it). Thanks in advance!

Not sure it will work . . .
with the more modern systems. It's defintely an early 'analog' system so that's not many cell providers other than Verizon that have analog cellular.
My '94 has an analog phone and it works well under Verizon. They seem to have the best signal coverage. You could take it over to one of their offices, and have a tech person check it out (free). |
