98 E320 Becker Radio problem
As soon as my warranty expired my radio started to malfunction.
I can't program radio channels using the first three buttons, I can't use the first three CD's in the changer and when using the tape I can't switch the tracks back and foward or activate the doby filter. Other than that the radio works just fine. Is this common with the Becker radio? Should I try and have the radio repaired or find a replacement? I'm not sure if the model is BE-1492 or BE-1692. If you know please help. Are there any Becker radios out there for sale to fit my E320 and what is the price range? Last edited by kwhite130; 09-01-2002 at 08:46 PM. |

If in fact it is a becker the stock one for 98 would be a be-1692 and the problem you are describing is usually caused by liquid getting into the switches. This is common and it can be repaired ck uot our repair dept @ www.lajollaaudiorepair.com and Cleeve would be glad to help you!

Thanks for you expert advise. If I pulled the unit could I fix it myself by replacing a board or two or is it more complicated than that. If so could I order the replacement parts from you.
I would do this only to save down time, sending things out to be repaired always seem to take too long for me. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated . |

Thanks a million
Hey Scott I want to thank you and Cleeve for your help with my Becker radio problem ,your years of experience truly paid off for me. You were right on when you suggested some type of liquid might have spilled into my unit. Well after talking with Cleeve I pulled the unit from the car and disassembled it. I found it all very easy to do. I cleaned the board behind the face plate and just like that, the unit started to work again. It is so good to have a fully functional unit again.
Thanks a million Keith ![]() |

Your welcome Keith, It is not a job for everyone to tackle but it did sound to us like you had the ability to get it fixed yourself. Good job!

sorry for the old thread resurrection, but i appreciate coming to one (or only a few) threads when i am hunting for solutions and wanted to share my experience.
i had the exact same symptoms as reported here, and my problem was a broken circuit board trace by one of the pushbuttons. All six of the preset buttons used to enter the radio code have a common connection, and mine was broken between buttons 3 & 4. i soldered in a jumper wire and now my radio works. |
