Dashboard Speaker Removal on W124.
Hi Guys
Please detail me on how to access the Dashboard speakers on a W124 Mercedes E 230 model. Also please let me know if "PIONEER" 13 cm speakers would be suitable to be mounted on the Dashboard in place of the current original speakers. Photographs on the removal procedure will be appreciated. Bye, |

Read the W124 Stereo Removal at <http://www.peachparts.com/do_it_yourself.htm> . The current dash speaker is an odd size, slightly larger than 4 5/8? (119-120 mm). Trying to put in 5.25" (13 cm) would require some serious cutting if possible at all? Why not buy some 3.5" or 4" which will fit? Next time use 'search' first.

Some owners have been able to install 5" Polk speakers with relatively little effort. Diamond Audio makes a 4.5" 2 way coax speaker that will just barely fit depth wise, but the tweeter may extend too far to clear the grill without cutting a hole in the grill (Or it comes in a 2 piece 4.5" component kit and the seperate tweeter can mount easily on the grill surface or windshield post. Finally, Scott at www.lajollaaudio.com has a german made 2 way coax speaker by Rainbow that is a direct snap in fit - no modifications.
A search will show a wide variety of other peakers that can be made to fit with modification, it all depends on what you are doing with the rest of the stereo system to warrant a lot of work and cost on the dash speakers. Do a search on '500E stereo' for a long thread on modifying the factory stereo system and adding sub woofers.
