450 SEL: radio power supply issues
Hi all:
Just retired early from my law career. Am going devote full-time to my hobby, Mercedes. Just purchased a pristine German=spec '77 450 SEL from original owner, with 58K miles on it. Was garaged. Here's the thing: The replacement radio is a Blaupunk Malibu am/fm cassette. It keeps going off. At first, it will be after about 5-6 minutes of use while driving, and then come on again in about 3 seconds. It will do this about 3 times. On the 4th pwoer interruption, it will go off fpr almost 10-12 hours before functioning again. Here's my theory: That while driving, the pwoer source connection to the radio comes slightly loose over some bump, etc., and then the radio codes. After 3 times, the radio - when interrupted - goes into prolonged anti-theft mode. Good theory? I'm thinkin of checking out all the radio pwoer connections. Where should I check on this vehicle? And if I must remove the radio, it doesn't seem to come out. Anyone have any similar experiences? I need some help. Thanks. (Oh - I previously had an /88 420 SEL W126 body. This 450 not only is faster with more torque, but the chassis seems far more settled (particularly the front end) on the interstate.) |
