replacing speakers in an '89 300E
I just put in a new cd player, and now want to replace the stock speakers. I was planning on using 4" for the front and 5 1/4" for the rear. I took off the speaker grilles today and the 4" for the front should work, but the speakers in the back are mounted in some kind of bracket that mounts to the car. Has anyone ever replaced the stock speakers in an 89' 300E, and what speakers did you use? Origonally i was going to put 6 1/2" in all 4 doors, but I took off one of the front door panels and the window motor is right behind the place I was going to put the speakers. Do the rear doors have the motor in the same place? Thanks for your help.

For the rear, I used a Pioneer two way speaker but I forget the size. I just tossed the brackets because they just secure the speaker and the weight of the magnet was good for me as far as securing. I dont get rattling. Cost was fifty bucks.

In my '86 300E i replaced the speakers with 4" 100W Boxters in front and 5 1/4 120W Boxters rear.
The 4" in front just fits right in. But for the 5 1/4 in the rear i had to make the hole in the 'brackets' bigger. -Used a Dremel to cut away plastic until the speaker did fit. And furthermore.. The 'brackets' are kind of flimsy in their fitting with the rear deck. -Not exactly air-tight. So i used some sealing compound around the brackets to seal them to the deck. The sound is SOOO much better! Now i only need to get a new headunit, a couple of amps and a good sub. ![]() Freestyler
